
A resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 10:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at Sunrise at Siegen Assisted Living. She was 89 and a native of Grand Prairie. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, Jan. 13, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting will continue at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 15915 Old Jefferson Highway, on Friday, Jan. 14, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Michael Collins. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Harry Accardo; a son and daughter-in-law, John J. Jr. and Becky Fontenot; two sisters, Euna and Anita Fontenot; four brothers, Edward, Johnny, Mitchell and Jim Briley; five grandchildren, Stephen Accardo, Annette Murnane, Carl Accardo, Jeff Jones and Jack Jones; five great-grandchildren, Cameron and Garrett Accardo, Christopher Murnane and Dominic and Malana Accardo; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, John J. Fontenot Sr.; two sisters, Lila Picard and Marjorie Smith; four brothers, Ashton, Earl, Paul and Lionel Briley; a daughter, Marilyn Michael; a granddaughter, Deeanna Jones; and a great-granddaughter, Jacquelyn Jones. She was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and recited the rosary once a week with her friends. She enjoyed cooking and baking pies along with planting and exchanging flowers from her many flower beds which kept her busy. She loved to grow many colors and types of day lilies and had beautiful red amaryllis surrounding her home. Her family wishes to thank the staffs of Generations Hospice and Sunrise at Siegen Assisted Living for their care and compassion during her stay.
