Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength." 1 Corinthians 15:42-43. Family and friends are in mourning for Madolyn "Mickie" Cox, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Texarkana, Ark., for she passed away Friday, Sept. 18, 2009. She was 74, born Feb. 23, 1935. Visitation at St. John's United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 3 p.m. until funeral service at 4 p.m. Burial service will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at East Memorial Gardens in Texarkana. Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband, Allen L. Cox Sr.; and brother, George Goree. She is survived by a brother, Chuck Horner; three sons, Allen Jr., Bill and Jeff; daughter, Felicia; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. "Mickie" was a graduate of Arkansas High in 1953 where she was voted "Porker Queen" and also graduated from LSU with honors in 1982. She retired from LSU in 1999, having worked at LSU's Paul M. Hebert School of Law for the late Dean Paul Hebert and later with the U.S. Geological Survey. Madolyn was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and a resident of Flannery Oaks. She relished bridge night with her neighborhood friends, playing tennis with family and later bingo with friends at Flannery Oaks. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
