
A native of Pointe Coupee Parish, completed her earthly journey and went home to the Lord early Saturday morning, Jan. 13, 2007. She was a longtime resident of Baton Rougeand had resided in Denham Springs. She was 89. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, Jan. 15, from 5 p.m.to 9 p.m.and at the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, Jan. 16, after 8 a.m.until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Danny Henderson. Interment inResthavenGardensof Memory. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Arthur F. "Paul" Ortis. She is survived by three children, Joan Truxillo and her husband, Bob, Dell Jackson and her husband, Jimmy, and John Ortis and his wife, Kathleen; eight grandchildren, Michael Kimball, Kelly Kimball, Robert Truxillo, David Truxillo, Amanda Mangan, Amy Ortis Martinez, Betsy Ortis Hankins and Hope Ortis Lewandowski; and 10 great-grandchildren. Margaret was full of life, dedicated to her family and a source of love, strength and wisdom to all. She was a Campfire Girl leader and helped to establish the first cabins at Camp Ruth Lee. She was also a playground director for BREC for many years. Additionally, she was a longtime member ofLanierBaptistChurch, where she was a Sunday school teacher. In her later years, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Denham Springs. She and her husband enjoyed camping and traveling during their retirement years. They also volunteered at the Baton Rouge Council on Aging and delivered meals weekly and on holidays to shut-ins. She will be dearly missed, not only by family and friends, but by all those whose lives she touched throughout the many years.
