
Marguerite "Margo" Smith Ebner died on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at her home in Baton Rouge, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on Government Street on Wednesday, July 25, was from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Thursday, July 26, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., concelebrated by the Rev. Myles Walsh and Monsignor Charles Mallet. Private interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. Born in New Orleans on Oct. 4, 1937, Margo was the second daughter of John Augustine Smith Jr. and Nathalie Baker Smith. Margo attended Southern Methodist University and graduated from LSU. She served as rush adviser to Chi Omega sorority at LSU for many years. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Baton Rouge. Margo is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Aimee Ebner Barker and Mark Allan Barker of Dallas; four sons and a daughter-in-law, James David Ebner Jr. of Sag Harbor, N.Y., John Augustine Ebner of Little Rock, Ark., Conrad Baker Ebner Sr. and Renee Richardson Ebner of Jackson, Miss., and Christian Albert Ebner of Baton Rouge; and four grandchildren, Austin Allan Barker and Marguerite Stirling Barker, both of Dallas, and Alexandra Stirling Ebner and Conrad Baker Ebner Jr., both of Jackson. Margo is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Jaquelin Smith Freeman and George Chester Freeman Jr., of Baton Rouge; as well as seven nieces and nephews and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews. Pallbearers will be David Ebner, John Ebner, Conrad Ebner, Christian Ebner, Chester Freeman, George Freeman, Kenneth Freeman, Taylor Freeman, Michael Harold and Bob Roberts. She was preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, the family requests designated memorial gifts be sent to Dr. Rivers P. "Tres" Wall III Scholarship Fund at Catholic High School or the Capital Area Animal Welfare Society in Baton Rouge.
