Al was known for his contagious smile, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to his family and faith. For 54 years, he was the devoted husband of his best friend and love of his life, Jeanette David Felps, and a proud and loving father to his son, Christopher Micheal Felps. He cherished his family as blessings from God and led by example through humility, integrity, and steadfast love.
A faithful Catholic, Al was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, embracing its principles of charity, unity, and fraternity. His life reflected a servant's heart and a deep commitment to Christ.
Al proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he retired from ExxonMobil and devoted 35 years to Louisiana State University, serving as Security Supervisor for Event Staff and Security. A lifelong supporter of LSU athletics, especially LSU Tigers football, he took great pride in his work and believed that all labor done with integrity was service unto the Lord. Geaux Tigers!
He expressed love through hospitality, enjoying motor-homing and gathering family and friends around the table. His home was always a place of warmth, laughter, and open doors. Those who knew him fondly remember his quick sense of humor, his love of sharing meals with family and friends especially enjoying a good bowl of gumbo-and his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Al is survived by his beloved siblings, Liz Fontenot, Norwood Felps, and Bryan Felps, Sr., along with Bryan's loving wife, Debra Felps; his cherished sister-in-law, Myrtle Ragusa "Jeannie" David; his dear brother-in-law, Kerry Melancon; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and treasured friends.
