
Marjorie Ruth Stucky Jordan was born on Jan. 15, 1922, and died on Sunday, April 19, 2009. She was born in Woodburn, Ind., and grew up in Fort Wayne, Ind. She graduated from Northside High School in Fort Wayne. She attended the University of Indiana in Bloomington where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority. After the outbreak of World War II, she left college to enter the work force. After the war, she visited her sister and brother-in-law in McAllister, Okla., where she met her husband-to-be, James Luther Jordan Jr. who was stationed there. Upon their marriage, they moved to Baton Rouge where she worked for the chancellor of the LSU Law School while her husband attended law school. They then moved to Shreveport and started their family there. In 1960, the Jordan family made their permanent home in Baton Rouge. Marjorie was a member of the board of directors of Utility Holdings Inc. and Louisiana Water Co. She was involved in numerous charitable organizations. Her main focus and the love of her whole life were her husband and her family. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church and up until her death looked forward to her Wednesday morning Bible class with the Rev. Chris Andrews. In earlier years, Marjorie and Luther enjoyed golfing, traveling together and the four months they spent each year in their beloved North Carolina mountains. Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Luther Jordan Jr.; infant daughter, Marjorie Jordan; daughter, Barbara Jordan Jones; and son-in-law, William Gary Jones, of Nashville, Tenn. Survived by her son, James Luther Jordan III, of Lincoln, Neb.; daughter, Jan Jordan, of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, William Gregory Jones and his wife Allison, and Jordan Elizabeth Jones, all of Nashville, Christopher Jordan Jones, of Tokyo; and three great-grandchildren, Billy, Riley and Luke Jones. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Stella Stucky; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Dorthy Stucky; sister and brother-in-law, Vera Stucky Benninghoff and Bob Benninghoff, who were all of Fort Wayne, Ind.; nephew, Bill Benninghoff, who was of Thunder Bay, Canada; and niece, Betsy Stucky, who was of Rome, Italy. Marjorie is also survived by a nephew, Jim Benninghoff, of Fort Wayne; and niece, Lisa Stucky, of Indianapolis. The family wanted to give a special thanks to Mary Allen, Ashley LaFleur and Isiah Gilmore for their loving dedication to Marjorie and the whole Jordan family. Visitation at First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 22, from noon until funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
