
A registered nurse and retired 32-year Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center employee, she died Saturday, July 25, 2009. She was 89, a native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. Visiting at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 28, from 1:30 p.m. until religious service at 2:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Paul Yi. Interment will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by two daughters, Adele Mitchell, and Lisa M. Cornejo and husband Rafael; son, Clarence E. Mitchell Jr. and wife Andrea; two grandchildren, Corey Mitchell and wife Laura, and Shelley Landry and husband Mike; and five great-grandchildren, Curtis Landry, Taylor Mitchell, Nicholas Landry, Emma Mitchell and Molly Mitchell. Preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Clarence E. Mitchell Sr.; parents, Auguste and Daisy Broussard Couniot; three sisters, Gladys, Inez and Doris; and granddaughter, Julie Ann Mitchell. Pallbearers will be Clarence E. Mitchell Jr., Steve Gaffney, Corey Mitchell, Mike Landry, Lester Gonsoulin, and Rafael Cornejo. She was a 1942 graduate of Touro Infirmary, a member of the American Nurses Association, the American Organization of Registered Nurses and served as a volunteer for hospice.
