

It is with great sadness that the family of Mark Thomas Ott Jr. notes he departed this life on September 13, 2023 at the age of 58 after having been diagnosed with a failing transplanted organ. True to his nature, he donated other viable organs to persons equally in need of saving by organ transplantation.
He was born on Oct. 2, 1964 to Mark T. Ott and Pat O’Neil Ott at Moody Air Force Base where his father was an AF Captain. He was a graduate of University High School in Baton Rouge and graduated from LSU with a B.S in Accounting. He received his CPA in 1988 and had over 20 years of experience as a certified public accountant in various executive roles. He began his career in Decatur, Georgia as a staff accountant with a private accounting firm. His career often moved him, first to Atlanta with Bass Hotel International as a Tax Specialist, and then to Charlotte, North Carolina as a proprietor with a CPA firm developing accounting procedures and controls. In 2002, he returned to Baton Rouge beginning work as a CPA accountant with several State agencies. His first job was with the Department of Health and Hospitals for several years. Thereafter, he rose to become the Assistant Director of the Department of Education for seven years. He then was offered and became the Fiscal Director for the Department of Agriculture and Forestry in 2015, and again after as an Assistant Fiscal Director for the Louisiana School for the Deaf, where he retired from State employment.
An avid sports enthusiast, he loved playing football at University High and was an avid fan of LSU football and baseball teams and the New Orleans Saints. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and held several positions of leadership. He also enjoyed hunting during the winter seasons with his grandfather, Ted O'Neil at his grandfather’s hunting camp on Pecan Island. He was a member of the Encounter Church in Baton Rouge.
He is predeceased by his father Mark T. Ott Sr. and grandmother Virginia Morse Ott. He is survived by his mother, Pat O’Neil-Moergeli, daughter Kathleen Mackenzie Pleskovic of Pittsburgh, PA., a half-sister, Michele Payne and niece and nephews, his uncle, Edward Ott, and cousins Edward & John Ott, as well as his uncle, Jack O’Neil, and first cousins, Kristin O’Neil, Jaclyn O’Neil, Katy O’Neil Fisher, Shannon O’Neil Womack, Courtney O’Neil Lindner, many other cousins in the O’Neil families, and many relatives in New Orleans.
While receiving his transplant in July 2013 from Tulane University, he always expressed gratitude for the care and service received by Tulane Transplant Institute, staff of BRG & OLOL Hospitals. His further gift to the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency, is testament to concern shown to others in a similar predicament. Private graveside committal service was held Sept. 22, 2023 at 11:00AM at Greenoaks Memorial Park and Funeral Home. A private memorial for family and friends will be held Friday, November 3, 4:00PM at Village Charmant Clubhouse, 117 Village Charmant Dr. #130, Baton Rouge, LA. A memorial service will also be held in November, in Pittsburgh, PA time and date to be announced.
