

December 10, 1931. When She was 8 years old, she moved with her parents and seven siblings to Baton Rouge where she has made her home. She passed May 11, 2024 at St. James Place. She enrolled at St. Joseph’s Academy in grammar school and received her high school diploma from there. She received her undergraduate and post-graduate degrees from Louisiana State University. A quintessential teacher, she taught mathematics and science in public, parochial and private schools during her career. She also served as the K-12 Mathematics and High School Science Supervisor for the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board and served as the Southern Representative on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Never one for Idleness and an ardent gardener, when she retired she became active in the East Baton Rouge Master Gardener Program and became the president of the organization. She also was an active volunteer at the Burden Center where she founded the Burden Horticulture Society and conducted art shows and icon workshops to raise funds for the Center. Although a gifted mathematician and science teacher, she discovered her artistic talent in her later years when she began oil painting; one of her paintings was awarded “Best in Show” in a juried art show. An active member of the St. Joseph Cathedral, she developed an interest in iconography which enabled her to use her artistic abilities in a spiritual pursuit. Always one to share with others, she created many beautiful icons while teaching the art to many. She was intelligent, gifted, selfless, humorous, industrious, beautiful, woman, Mary Virginia “Ginnie” Coerver Bolin was born in St. Louis Missouri and was a mentor to many and an example of a life well lived to everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her son, John Michael Bolin of Phoenix, Arizona, daughters Helen L. Bolin and Beth B. Miller of Baton Rouge, grandchildren Patrick Miller of Baton Rouge and granddaughter Helen Miller Owen and Austin Owen (Husband) of Austin, Texas, brother James F. Coerver and sister-in-law Robin Robb Coerver of Baton Rouge, numerous nieces and nephews, godson, Jerry Jolly, goddaughter Catherine Choppin, and her beloved dog, McDuff. She was preceded in death by her husband Prentice Bolin, Jr. a WWII veteran, sons Prentice James Bolin and Robert Lewis Bolin, and parents Joseph Francis and Helena Cahill Coerver, brothers Thomas, John and Michael Coerver, sisters Margaret Jolly, Mary Catherine McAfee, Rose Mary Coerver and nephew Michael Coerver. Relatives and friends are invited to St. Joseph Cathedral on Thursday, May 16, 2024 for a visitation beginning at 9:00AM until a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00AM. A private burial is to follow. Ginnie requested that memorials be made to St. Joseph's Cathedral, Burden Botanical Gardens, or St. Joseph's Academy
