Matt’s life passion was rock climbing in some of the most naturally scenic yet physically challenging stone and mountain formations in the US and abroad. Matt’s passing occurred as he was doing what he truly loved, surrounded by friends, at one of his favorite locations on earth, and his transcendence was swift and without suffering.
Matt lived most of his life in Louisiana. He was born in Shreveport in 1996 and grew up in Watson, where he graduated from Live Oak High School. After graduating with a finance degree from Southeastern Louisiana University, he made the Denver area his home. Matt was accomplished in the financial and tech sectors and enjoyed entertaining his friends when he was a DJ, playing the guitar, and telling jokes.
Matt was loving, sarcastic, humorous, and enjoyed making others smile. He was a beacon of kindness and overflowed with devotion to his fellow man, both blood kin and stranger alike. His friends described him as smart, witty, charismatic, generous, loyal, and being the best friend or brother to whomever was in need. He loved water recreation, skateboarding, every energetic music genre, homemade chocolate cake, The Three Stooges, old Disney movies, and every animal he came in contact with.
From early childhood until his untimely passing, Matt’s presence in the world was both magnetic and infectious. He remains an overflowing source of enduring inspiration to everyone who knew him and whose lives he touched.
Matt’s survivors include his parents, Heather Wolfe Richard (Billy Stout) and Jeffrey Paul Richard (Yvonne); his brothers, Joseph and Andrew Richard; his sister, Alyssa “Ally” Richard; stepbrothers, Cameron Stout (Ashton), William Stout, and Benjamin Kirby; and stepsisters, Jordan Porter (Stephen), Sarah Stout, and Caitlin Kirby; maternal grandparents, Sandra Wolfe and Nolan Bourgeois, Peggy Wolfe and Beverly Stout; paternal grandparents, Allen and Susan Richard; aunts, Shawna Wolfe, Marcia Wollfarth (Buddy), Lisa Goodwin (Bill) and Dorcus Martin (Robbie); and his uncles, Eric Bourgeois, Todd Wolfe, and Randy Stout. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Roger Wolfe; uncle, Gary Wolfe; and great-aunt, Sandra Elaine “Tootie” Dupuy (Herman “Plug”).
