

Phillip John Mitchell, M.D.He passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the age of 75. Phil graduated high school in Springfield, PA, and later on from the University of Delaware, University of Southwestern Louisiana (UL), and the Louisiana State University Medical School. He was a physician for 40 years, having done his residency with the Charity System in Shreveport, LA. After being in private practice in Many, LA and in Natchitoches, LA for many years, he moved to Baton Rouge in 1994 to work in occupational medicine for the Our Lady of the Lake System, Concentra, Earl K. Long Medical Center, and Med-Aid. Phil was very intellectual and analytical. He enjoyed researching financial markets, the Holy Bible, reading, hunting in younger years, loved playing and watching football, and gave total attention and focus to whatever he was doing at the time. Husband, father, and grandfather were his key roles in life. He was very devoted to his family, was a wonderful provider and protector, is greatly loved and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Cheryl Peel Mitchell; children Phillip J. Mitchell, Jr. and Amber L. Mitchell; grandchildren, Riley R. Risher and Laurel Abigail Davis; and his identical twin brother, William J. Mitchell, M.D. (wife Delores). Phil is preceded in death by his parents Alton E. Mitchell and Velma Armentor Mitchell. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (825 Government Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70802) from 12:00 PM until the Funeral Service at 2:00 PM.
