Melodie S Sutherland

Melodie “Mel” S. Sutherland, age 64, passed away Sunday January 18, 2026, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with her husband of 36 years by her side. She was born in Pasadena, Texas and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA since the early 80’s.

Mel was a strong-willed, passionate, free-spirted, loyal woman, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who was loved by many. During her lifetime she was employed in various fields ranging from dispatching and management to landscaping. However, the most important job she held was being a mother to her two children. She enjoyed all things outdoors especially spending time with her family and friends at the beach-her one true happy place.

Melodie survived her loving husband Fred L. Sutherland Jr. She was the devoted mother to Meghan Sutherland and Fred L. Sutherland III and her only grandson; Greyson L. (Sutherland) Frost. Melodie was the sister of David Patton (Suzanne Patton) and sisters-in-law of Stephanie Sutherland and Suzanne Brown (Milton Brown).

Melodie preceded in death by her parents; Raymond and Bobbie Patton, father-in-law; Fred L. Sutherland Sr.; mother-in-law; Mildred Sutherland; sisters Darlene Battistoni and Sharon (Ford) Collins, and brother-in-law; Gregory Sutherland.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815, on Thursday, January 29th from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM.

Upon her wishes, Mel’s ashes will be spread by family in a remote location with the remaining to be buried alongside of her husband, Fred Sutherland Jr, at Forest Lawn Memorial.
