

Mildred Valega Strickland, lovingly known as Millie, passed away peacefully at her home, and returned to her Heavenly Father on October 4, 2023, at the age of 96. She was born in Hobart, LA to the late Guy and Lillian Valega. Millie was married to the love of her life, D.J. Strickland, for over 75 years. She helped to run their family business, Strickland Electric. Millie was an accomplished artist painting on canvas and porcelain china. She was a lifetime member of the Baton Rouge Porcelain Art Guild. Millie was also a talented musician who played the organ. harmonica and served as Choir Director for St. Alphonsus Catholic Church for over 25 years. What she loved most in life was her family and all the family gatherings throughout the years. We are so blessed with these memories.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Vicki Convington (Glenn), Carla Tarver (Bobby), Mike Strickland (Trish), Dayna Ellis (Randy); 9 grandchildren and spouses, Shannon Kirkpatrick (Sean), Kymberly Herrin (Randy), Chris Tarver (Heather), Jeremy Tarver (Brooke), Hayley Felter (Josh), Brandon Strickland (Jill), Staci Strickland, Jason Ellis (Kim), Josh Ellis; 27 great-grandchildren, Madison, Connor, Cole, Conelly, Kassidy, Zane, Seth, Brennan, Bryson, Hayden, Klayton, Lilli, Presley, Keegan, Kambree, Charley, Brody, Emma, Jackson, Karson, Bella, Anna, Nadia, Preston, Lincoln, Wes, Joanna; 1 great-great grandchild, Thomas; sister Blanche Hoover and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Plaisance and Wilda Lockhart. Millie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Guy Valega, Jr., and sister Shirley Lively. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. We would like to thank her caregivers, Claudette Harris and Nicole Hunt, as well as Farrell Fabre and Rechelle Cryer from Pinnacle Hospice for their compassionate care of our mom. The visitation will be Tuesday, October 10th beginning at 10:00am at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Mass to begin at 11:00am followed by a burial at Greenoaks Memorial Park
