After a wonderful Christmas Eve with her beloved family, Nancy Lee Buckle took her last breath in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the community she loved for over fifty years. She passed away on December 25, 2021, after many battles with cancer. Nancy was born in Edwardsville, Illinois on May 22, 1947, to Glen Udell Pike and Dorothy Jean Mann. She graduated from Highland High School in Highland, Illinois. After moving to Baton Rouge, she attended LSU. During the summer of 1968, she met Robert L. Buckle, and they were married in April of 1970.
She was a co-owner of two businesses, Robert L. Buckle, Co, Inc. and R.L.B. Hollow Metal Doors for 15 years. She attended Baton Rouge School of Computers, where she obtained an Associate’s Degree in Programming. She was very involved with St. Louis King of France Church and School. She taught catechism and volunteered in many other areas. She also taught ballroom dancing at Fred Astaire Studios. Nancy loved being a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a non-academic sorority which she joined in 1974 and enjoyed holding several office positions. She sang in choirs at St. Louis King of France and St. Patrick’s Catholic Churches. She worked at the LA Department of Health and Hospitals in the eligibility department. She then retired after 10 years from the LA Department of Revenue as a supervisor in tax preparation and data control. She also spent many years as a part-time worker in several retail stores. Nancy was quite crafty, always had a home project in the works, and enjoyed shopping at many local crafts fairs. Her friends and family admired her positive, fighting spirit, her creativity, her beautiful smile, and humor. She loved how Alan Jackson says, “Our greatest gifts are the ones you leave behind,” and Nancy’s son, Robert Christian “Chris,” was the greatest gift God ever gave her. His wife, Marcie (Coupel) brought an abundance of love and a devotion to faith in God. Nancy’s greatest joy was being “Nana'' to her granddaughter, Sydnie Claire, who was truly a blessing from God and an answer to many prayers.
Nancy is survived by her son, Chris Buckle (Marcie); granddaughter, Sydnie; brother, Steven D. Pike (Marla); sister, Glenda S. Pike; step-sisters Paula L. Moore (Rick), Sandra G. Spurgeon (Roger), Roxanne L. Landolt (Michael), and step-brothers James G. Pike (Darlene) and Glen W. Pike (Nicol).
Nancy is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Jean Mann; father, Glen Udell Pike; her infant son; her ex-husband, Robert L. Buckle; a step-sister, Juliana D. Pike, and a step-brother, Richard W. Palmer (Velma).
Visitation, to be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Ln., Baton Rouge, LA 70816, will begin at 9:00 am on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, with Mass of Christian burial to begin at 11:00 am.
