

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he died at 9 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2008, at his home. He was a retired carpenter and a resident of Baton Rouge. He was 82, a U.S. Army surgical technician serving in World War II and a native of Plaquemine. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, April 27, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church on Monday, April 28, from 11 a.m. until religious service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Jack Nutter. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bessie Banta; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mickey F. Banta and wife Debbie, Brusly, Keith Banta and wife Margaret and Bruce Banta and wife Celeste, all of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Patricia Roy-Waggeman and Violet Babin-Gonzales; a sister-in-law, Elsie Banta; three brothers, Charles Banta and wife Mae, Watson, Ernest Banta, Picayune, Miss., and Carrol Banta and wife Sumiko, El Paso, Texas; grandchildren, Melisa Banta, Brandi Oufnac and husband Nicholas, Marie Banta, Matthew Banta, Travis Banta and Garrett Banta; great-grandchildren, Brooke Banta and D.J. Dillenkoffer; stepgrandchildren, Dawn and husband Brad Guffey and Melissa and husband Perry Watts; and step-great-grandchildren, Braylen, Breana and Blaise Watts and Aidan Guffey. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Banta Sr.; mother, Nesida G. Banta; brother, Jesse Banta Jr.; and sister, Alice Hernandez. Pallbearers will be Matthew Banta, Travis Banta, Garrett Banta, Nicholas Oufnac, John D. Clement and Davis Callegan. Honorary pallbearer is Hennessy Goudeau Jr. He was a graduate of Plaquemine High School, and a member of Carpenters Local 1098 and American Legion Post 38.
