
A retired Ethyl Corp. engineer and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at the Butterfly Wing of Hospice of Baton Rouge. He was a native of Plaquemine, born Dec. 2, 1915. Visitation at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Road, on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Michael J. Moroney, celebrant. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. Survived by his four loving daughters, Sandra Navarre and Janice Hurst, both of Baton Rouge, Phyllis Sharpe, and Lynette Shaffett and husband Philip, all of Central; grandchildren, Kristie Huckaby, Brent Perez, Jamie Watts, Travis Hurst, Ryan Sharpe, Lacey Shaffett, Lindsey Sharpe, Dena Shaffett and Bud Shaffett; and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jeremy and Brenna Huckaby, Lexi Perez and Avery and Abby Watts. Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Blanche; an infant son; and a grandson, Cory Hurst. He was a longtime member of St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church and a 1941 graduate of the University of Kentucky, where he lettered in baseball.
