Norma Marie Freas Ramey passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018, at the age of 84. She was born January 4, 1934, in Norristown, PA, and was a long-time resident of Baton Rouge, LA. She and her husband, Herb, had a rather unique history in that they were born one day apart in the same hospital, to parents who were close friends themselves. They grew up together in Conshohocken, PA, were high school sweethearts and were married for 50 years. Norma was a secretary/insurance clerk for many years and retired after she and her late husband started a farm in Baywood, LA, which was aptly named “Farnuff Farms” (as it was far enough out in the country). She ran a boarding kennel for over 30 years and also bred and raised German Shepherds. Her passion for animals earned her the reputation of never refusing a rescue dog, cat, horse or any other animal, which she affectionately called “her four-legged people.” She was especially proud of caring for the Redemptorist High School mascot, Chinook, a timber wolf, for 15 years. Norma also loved Arabian horses as she bred and raised them as well. She lived a very full and vivacious life and touched the lives of many people through her dealings with animals. Norma always said she would write an autobiography and title it “Never A Dull Moment.” Norma is survived by her son, Stewart Thwaite Ramey, M.D. and wife, Trudy Buras; daughter-in-law, Katherine Phelps Ramey; grandchildren, Renee Stiegler and husband, Chris, Kristen Adams and husband, Chris, and Brad, Douglas and Lauren (Sissy) Ramey; great-grandchildren, Allie Rose Adams and Reed David Adams. Norma is preceded in death by her loving husband, Herbert Leroy Ramey; son, David Franklin Ramey, M.D.; parents, Hiram Francis Freas and Helen Fetter Freas; brother, John Fetter Freas. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Monday, January 22, 2018, from 12:00PM until the time of funeral services at 2:00PM. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. The family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to the staffs of Baton Rouge General Bluebonnet ICU and The Carpenter House.
