Norvin Joseph Townsend Sr. , 82, our beloved husband, daddy, brother, and grandfather affectionately known as “Num Num” passed away on July 30, 2014, at his home in Baton Rouge. With sad and heavy hearts we lifted him to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. There is a saying: “What makes a true legend is how someone is remembered.” He lovingly will be remembered as soft spoken, kind, gentle, courteous, respectful, giving, unselfish, loyal, considerate, and above all else, loving to everyone he ever met and loved. A proud Army veteran of the Korean War, he loved all manner of animals and rescued so many. He enjoyed tinkering with his two 1964 Impalas and talking politics with family and friends. He was known as “Daddy-O” during his 37 years at Halliburton. He is our legend, and we know as his family, we would not be the kind of people we are today if he had not been the perfect role model we needed growing up, the one who bestowed life lessons upon us. God is powerful and loving, and He will guide us throughout our remaining years until we can join with our loved one again. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 60 years Ruby Juanita “Tena” Townsend; son Joey Townsend and wife Kendra; and three daughters, Debe Richard and husband Darrell; Pam Bailey and husband John; Vicki Newton and husband Randy. He was adored by his ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Tommy Townsend and wife Jackie; and Jerrel Townsend, as well as sisters Marrianne Harper and Sandra Ligori. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Edward and Mary Beatrice Townsend, sister Cheryl Miley, and brothers Joseph Edward, Jr. “Jackie” Townsend and Elwin Townsend. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 9 AM until funeral service at 10 AM officiated by Reverend Donald Gauthier. Private burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
