Rhonda Lynette Robinson was born on August 18, 1959, to the union of the late Roosevelt and Ruby Robinson Sr. Rhonda passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the age of 66. Rhonda’s faith was the foundation of her life. Baptized at McKowen Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Alvin McCrory, Sr., Rhonda later converted to Catholicism at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church under Pastor Thomas F. Clark, with her dear friend Althea Lacy as her sponsor. Rhonda embraced both Baptist and Catholic traditions, finding beauty in both and living her faith through kindness, humility, and love. Rhonda was educated in the East Baton Parish School System and graduated in 1977 from McKinley High School. Her passion for guiding and nurturing young minds took root early when she participated in the Upward Bound Program as a high school student. That experience shaped her calling, which became a lifelong mission to lift others higher. Rhonda later joined the TRIO Upward Bound Program staff at Southern University as a counselor and through more than three decades of service, she rose to become its Executive Director. Rhonda earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Southern University and A&M College and pursued doctoral studies at Clark Atlanta University. Rhonda also became a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Beta Alpha Chapter, during her collegiate years. Rhonda is preceded in death by her brother Ronald Robinson, and her cherished nieces, Jasmine Fleming and Jillian Robinson. Rhonda leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold her close in their hearts: her siblings, Roosevelt Robinson, Jr. (Kathy), Raeford Robinson, Rutha Lynn Cox (Brian), Victoria Hilton, Ramona Robinson, and Reginald Robinson (Martha). She is also remembered with love by her “special sisters” Rolieta Jackson, Althea Lacy, Donna Robertson, Desiree Ephrom and Kathy Steele; her godson, Darion Chambers and goddaughter M’tisha Butler; her close cousin, Ruth Farmer and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends, and her beloved Southern University and TRIO families, who will always remember her as a colleague, a friend and a “TRIO Mom” to a countless number of her beloved TRIO babies. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 9am until the time of memorial services at 10:30am.
