

Robert Leonard Eisenbach, Jr., 92, passed away on July 4, 2022, in Baton Rouge. A native of New York City, Bob graduated from the Bronx High School of Science in 1946 and in 1950 from the University of Alabama with a B.S. in Chemistry. He enlisted in the United States Army, served from 1950 to 1953, spent a year and a half in Korea during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal.
In April 1952, just before shipping out, he married Jean London of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, his wife of 69 years. Upon his return from Korea, he enrolled at Georgia Tech University, earning a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1956. Bob was a resident of Baton Rouge and member of Congregation B’nai Israel for more than 60 years. His career as a chemical and environmental engineer spanned positions with Ethel Corporation, Tennessee Products, and Kaiser Aluminum, where he worked from the early 1960s until his early retirement in 1985. While at Kaiser, he also served the Baton Rouge community as a loaned executive to the United Way. Bob was a well-known and respected environmental professional in Louisiana and beyond. After serving as President of the Louisiana Chapter, in 1980 Bob was elected President of the Air Pollution Control Association (now known as the Air and Waste Management Association), an international organization of environmental control professionals. In 1985, he joined Baton Rouge-based G&E Engineering as Vice President, consulting on environmental matters across the southern and central United States until his full retirement in 1995. Bob served on the Governor’s Transition Team, advising on environmental issues and was a founding member of the Institute of Professional Environmental Practice, a certification group for environmental professionals. A devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Bob was preceded in death by his wife Jean London Eisenbach, his parents, Helen Aronson Eisenbach and Robert Leonard Eisenbach; and brothers-in-law Alvin Newman London and Richard Scherzer. He is survived by: his daughter Janice Eisenbach Day and son-in-law Robert of Baton Rouge; son Robert L. Eisenbach III and daughter-in-law Barbara of Piedmont, California; four grandchildren, Robin Day and fiancée Nicholas Burks of Baton Rouge, Lauren Day Walker and husband David Walker of Mandeville, River Eisenbach of Santa Cruz, California, and Samuel Eisenbach of Piedmont, California; two great-grandchildren, Ethan Scott and Emma Scott and their step-sisters Sophia and Madison Walker; sister Lynnette Eisenbach Scherzer of White Plains, New York; and nieces Teresa Scherzer of San Francisco, California, and Caroline Hoji of Los Angeles, California.
