Rosie Mae Coles

Ms. Rosie Mae “Tanny” Coles, passed away on November 24, 2021 at the age of 80. She was born in Thibodaux, Louisiana on February 5, 1941 to parents Earl and Delma Ellis. Ms. Rosie retired from the U.S. Toy Company in Kansas City.

She was a native of Thibodaux, LA and a resident of Kansas City. Missouri. Because of illness she moved back to Louisiana to live with her daughter, Cheryl and son, Gregory.

She was baptized on February 14, 1987 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and has served faithfully until her death. In September of 2007, after retiring, she became a regular pioneer. For the next 7 years, she and her pioneer partner, Brenda Withers, would travel to different states, working seldom worked territory making friends in all the congregations they visited. She was loved by all that met her.

Rosie was a mild, humble person with a beautiful smile. She loved reading the Bible and teaching it to others, shopping, traveling, and cooking were some of her favorite activities.

Ms. Rosie is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Mr. Samuel Nelson Coles; daughters, Cheryl Ferrygood and Tara Williams; step-daughters, Donna Coles and Andrea Moore; sons, Gregory Coles, Ray Coles and Kenneth Coles; grandchildren, Jana, Aaron, Katelynn Ellis, Caleb Nelson, Gregory Nathan Coles, Hannahisa Peoples, Michaila Williams, Iman Coles, Mauriel Coles, and Simeya Coles; great-grandchildren, Ramar and Kendall Nelson; Sisters, Linda (Larry) Tillman, Gail (Earl) Tillman, and Mary Jo (Linney) Mozee; nieces, Denise Stovall, Shenelle Ellis, Lanitra Spurlock, April Tillman, Chantell Wallis, and Krystal Turner; nephews, Kevin Ellis, Patrick Ellis, Larry Jason Tillman, Lonzell Tillman, Lance Tillman, and Donald Wallis.

Preceded in death by, parents, Earl and Delma Williams Ellis; son, Ronald Ellis; brothers, Wilbert Williams, Lawrence Ellis, and Raymond Ellis; and sister, Dorothy Bailey.

Pallbearers will be, Gregory Nelson Coles, Ray Anthony Coles, Kenneth Lee Coles, Lonzell Justin Tillman, Larry Jason Tillman, and Patrick Donovan Ellis. Honorary pallbearers, Samuel Nelson Coles, Coyle Ferrygood, Vincent Williams, Linney Mozee, Larry Tillman, Earl Tillman, and James Dooley Dozier.

Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 11:00am until 1:00pm. Interment will follow visitation at Yong Men’s Benevolent Society Cemetery, 118 California St. Lafourche Crossing, Thibodaux, Louisiana at 3:00pm.
