Rubye Lee Engquist

"Rubye Lee Engquist was born September 13, 1929 in Weslaco, TX to Fred Johnson and Rubye Henderson, neé Hood. She died peacefully in her home at Gurley the morning of December 2, 2017. Rubye Lee is survived by her daughter, Kris, and her husband, Bryan Dunne, and by her son, John, and his wife, Marty. She had four grandchildren: Ryan and John Engquist, and Taylor and Meghan Dunne. She also had six great-grandchildren: Thomas, John, Allie, Hayes, Avery, and Alice Engquist. Rubye was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Thomas Ray Engquist, her daughter Kathleen, her parents, and her sister Betty Jean. Anyone who met Mrs. Rubye felt her warmth and friendship and was inspired by her outlook on life. Her philosophy was "any day I wake up is a great day." She lived life to the fullest. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (825 Government Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70802) from 9 am until the Funeral Service at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest with her husband, daughter, and mother at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be Ryan and John Engquist, Cooper Hurst, Wayne Garafola, Elvis (Bodie) Adams, and Ledell Allen. Honorary pallbearer will be her son-in-law, Bryan Dunne. Special thanks to Liz Smith, Gwen Young, and Hospice of Baton Rouge for the excellent care they gave her.
