
Ruth Walsh Knox, loving and devoted mother to not only her three children but numerous nieces and nephews as well as neighborhood children, left this world on December 30, 2014 at the age of 91. Ruth was born in Baton Rouge on December 17, 1923 to Walter Winn Walsh and Ruth Kuhnert Walsh. She was the oldest of 6 children. In 1948 Ruth married the love of her life William James "Billy" Knox. Her strong faith taught her to look for the best in everyone, always looking for the bright side of life. She taught all who knew her so much about life, love and giving. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church spending 20 years working in the pre school and nursery. She also worked diligently with the Bereavement committee as well as many other committees. Ruth and Billy worked for the Council on Aging for 20 years delivering Meals on Wheels. Her beloved "Busy Bodies" exercise class provided support, friendship and fun for over 25 years. She is survived by 2 daughters, Dorothy "Dottye" Ruth Knox of Baton Rouge, Nancy Knox McCarley and her husband Steven of Stockbridge,GA, 1 son William James"Jay" Knox Jr. of Baton Rouge and the Light of her Life...her grandson Christopher Steven McCarley. She also leaves behind her beloved sister and brother, Frances Walsh Welch of Baton Rouge and Dale Patrick Walsh and his wife JoAnn of Baton Rouge, 3 sister in laws...Lucrecia Walsh of Lima, Peru, Paula Walsh of New Orleans, Maria Walsh of Denham Springs as well numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her mother and father, Walter and Ruth Walsh, 3 brothers, Walter "Bubby" Walsh, David Thomas Walsh, Donald Eugene Walsh,and a brother in law Preston Welch. Special thanks to Dr. Gerald Barber and Dr. Gerald Miletello for their loving compassion and guidance. Ruth will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 4 from 5-7 pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on Government St in Downtown Baton Rouge. Visitation Monday morning, Jan. 5, at Our Lady of Mercy Church from 8:30am until Mass at 10:30. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
