Salvadore Joseph Gannuch, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 13, 2023, at the age of 90. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy W. Becker Gannuch, his parents, Nunzio Joseph Gannuch and Raphael E. Altobello Gannuch, grandparents Salvatore and Maria Cusimano Gannuch, and Francesco and Gioseppina Lampasi Altobello. He is survived by his two sons Craig (Melissa) and Anthony (Louise), grandchildren Justin, Ella, Andrew, and Henry Gannuch, two brothers, Donald (Diane) and Warren (Carol), five nieces and nephews, and six grand nieces and nephews. Sal was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, attended St. John the Baptist School and graduated from St. Aloysius High School in 1951. Shortly after high school and along with two best friends from the neighborhood, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was deployed to overseas duty aboard the USS Philippine Sea aircraft carrier, which saw continuous action during his deployment. Upon his return, Sal served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve until October of 1959. He attended Tulane University and enjoyed a career in sales and management retiring from Pan American Imports and later Zep Manufacturing. Sal was a people person by nature and loved to tell stories. He was lovingly known as Papa to his grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70808, at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am.
