"Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also and he praises her." Proverbs 21. Sally passed away peacefully Sunday, March 27, 2011, at her home in Greenwell Springs. She was 89 and had fought a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Sally was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Trenton, Tenn., graduated from Jackson High School and attended Lambuth University. She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 163 and a former member of Winbourne Baptist Church. As a young woman, Sally worked for the local telephone company in Jackson, Tenn., where she met John "Lucky" Ellis. Two years later, they were married in El Paso, Texas, where Lucky was stationed in the U.S. Army Air Forces prior to his European deployment as a bombardier in World War II. She was a devoted wife and mother who put her husband and five children first. Her husband, Lucky, has always said that she was the sweetest, most wonderful wife that a man could ever want, and he and daughter, Lisa, were her devoted caregivers during her illness. When her illness sometimes made it hard to recognize family members, she never failed to recognize Lucky and called him her "wonderful husband." Survived by her husband of 66 years, John "Lucky" Ellis; son, Ron and wife Glenda; sons, twins, Charles and Carl, and Brian and girlfriend Patti Birdsall; daughter, Lisa; and grandchildren, Jennifer Ellis, Katie Jenkins and husband Jeff, Jonathan Ellis, Luke Rasch and wife Marissa, and Rachel and Sarah Rasch; great-grandsons, Caleb Stelly and Colin Jenkins; and twin great-granddaughters, Catelyn and Caryse Cardenas. Preceded in death by her parents, William E. and Mary E. Scarborough; brothers, Billy, Charlie and Lawrence Scarborough; sisters, Lue Benton and Mary Miller Snyder; and great-granddaughter, Savannah Grace Stelly.
