
Born on Oct. 8, 1923, in Walkerto the late James Ross and Mary Alice Arnold Coxe, he passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, at Our Lady of theLakeRegionalMedicalCenterat age 83. A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, he graduated fromWalkerHigh Schoolin 1940 and attended LSU before entering the U.S. Army Air Forces. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he re-entered LSU, majoring in engineering in 1948. In 1949, after much success in residential construction, he founded Sidney Coxe Construction Co. He founded Builder's Center Inc. in 1956, and in 1964, he turned from residential to commercial real estate development. Along with his brothers, he was a founding member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Walker. Fraternally, he was a member of St. James Masonic Lodge 47, F&AM, the Acacia Shrine Temple, longtime member of Sherwood Forest Country Club and senior member of the Men's Golf Association. Mr. Coxe is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Sidney E. Coxe Jr. and Mary Beth Coxe; and a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Coxe Camp and Jon Camp; three brothers, J.R. Coxe Jr., Lamar Coxe and John Coxe; two sisters, Pennie Thoms and Connie Hazel Brooks; grandchildren, Christopher Camp, Teslyn Camp, Travis Coxe and Corey Coxe; numerous nieces and nephews; and a companion and longtime family friend, Yolanda Elliot. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Elizabeth Snell Coxe; and two brothers, Douglas Coxe and Robert Allen Coxe. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., was on Wednesday, Jan. 17, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at Friendship United Methodist Church, 34260 Walker Road North, Walker, on Thursday from 10 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Louis Morris. Interment in the family plot at the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Darrel Forrestier, Travis Coxe, Corey Coxe, Henry Silvio, Dale Barringer and Don Cook. Honorary pallbearers are Frank G. Sullivan, Bob Bone, Mackie Landry, Joe Baird and Roy Schnevlen. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the American Diabetes Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
