
"Father, we entrust our sister to your mercy. You loved her greatly in this life; now that she is freed from all its cares, give her happiness and peace forever. Welcome her now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever." She was a former teacher with the East Baton Rouge Parish school system and member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, where she taught summer Bible school, and several teacher and animal protection organizations. A native and resident of Baton Rouge, she died Friday, June 13, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center at age 32. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, June 16, from 9 a.m. until memorial service at 11 a.m. Survived by her husband, Michael James Barker; two daughters, Gabrielle Michelle "Gabby" and Emily Claire Barker; parents, Wayne and Clara Knight Laird, Baton Rouge; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Warren and Faye Gillett Barker, Baton Rouge; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Mark (Kathy) Barrios, Rancho Cordova, Calif., Harry Barker, Houston, Mrs. Tim (Sharon) Poche, The Woodlands, Texas, and Mark Barker, Baton Rouge; aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and many friends whom she dearly loved. Also survived by her beloved pets, Princess, Boyd, Noah and Kitty. Preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Laird and Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Knight. In Michelle's memory, donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or any animal protection organization.
