
Stephen Michael Kaufman, Lieutenant Colonel, USAF, retired, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at his home in Baton Rouge. He was 82 years old. He was born in Lynn, MA, the son of Samuel and Anne Schultz Kaufman. He graduated from Lynn English High School, attended Brown University in Providence, RI, and graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. He participated in varsity and college sports throughout school including football, hockey, track and baseball. Steve was a 20 year veteran of the Air Force from 1956-1976, including 2 tours of duty in Southeast Asia. He was awarded numerous awards including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Airmen's Medal. He served with great distinction as a pilot in several fighter air crafts such as the F-100 and F-4D. He subsequently had a 23 year career as a realtor with C.J. Brown. Steve was also an active member of Downtown Kiwanis, Order of Daedalians, and several military organizations. Steve is survived by his wife, Dorothy Diane Forbes Kaufman; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Walter Grammer, of Mansfield, MA; a son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Robin Kaufman of McKinney, TX; two granddaughters, Caroline Grammer of Dallas, TX, and Anne Claire Grammer of Philadelphia, PA; a nephew, Kenneth Stillman and family of Dallas, TX; a niece, Betsy Stillman Eiss and family of Arlington, VA; a sister-and brother-in-law, Sue Ellen and John Graham, of Baton Rouge. Steve is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Shirley Kaufman Stillman; and his infant son, James Brian Kaufman. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home at 825 Government Street on Sunday, July 12th from 2-5 p.m. A military burial service with honors will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131 or a charity of choice.
