Stephen A. Myshrall was born in Waterville, ME, on August 13, 1946. He was known by most as “Steve, Mysh, or Hawk” and by his grandchildren as “Pops and Petunia”. His father’s career moved the family to Birmingham, AL, where he was introduced to his first love: baseball. In high school, Steve moved to Baton Rouge, LA, and attended Catholic High School (CHS) where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. But the baseball diamond is where his athleticism really shined with his quick throwing and high batting average. After high school, Steve signed with the Baltimore Orioles and spent 5 seasons working his way through the minor leagues playing the sport he loved. Unfortunately, Steve’s promising baseball career was cut short due to injury. However, over the years, Steve continued to cultivate his camaraderie with the CHS Class of 1964 and was recently recognized by CHS for his baseball accomplishments and inducted into the CHS Grizzly Great Hall of Fame.
Steve spent off-seasons attending the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and earned a degree in marketing. He worked in outside sales for the majority of his career where his charismatic personality and charm helped him find success. On the weekends, you could still find him on the diamond where he shifted his love of the game to fast pitch softball. Later in life, Steve took up golf where he was equally athletic - even getting multiple holes in one! He played at Fairwood Golf Course when he was not attending his daughters’ sporting events (his ABCs). Most recently, he could be found at Greystone Golf Course where he was known as the best dressed marshal handing out tee times, witty zingers, and a genuine smile to players who loved the game as much as he did.
But, Steve’s true love was his family. He adored family gatherings and spending time with his daughters, nurturing a continued friendship with his former wife, attending sporting events for his grandchildren, engaging in silly banter and sports chatter with his brothers, and taking in the craziness of the big Myshrall family Christmas gatherings. Steve is best known for his quick wit, dry sense of humor, kind smile, “specialty” gift wrap, pristine penmanship, love of crossword puzzles, and for never ever forgetting a birthday!
Steve will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Steve is survived by his brothers, Dave Myshrall and John Myshrall; beloved daughters, Britney Piner and Alexis Breedlove; former wife, Sharon Schexnayder Myshrall; sons-in-law, Andy Piner and Blake Breedlove; grandchildren, Madison Hanks, Sam Pennington, Eli Marshall, Camille Piner, Keller Piner, and Dillin Breedlove.
