Stephen Louis Scallan Sr.

Stephen L. Scallan, Sr., 84, passed away peacefully in Gonzales, LA, December 2, 2017. He was born in Bunkie, LA, March 25, 1933 to his parents Robert and Leona Mayeaux Scallan. He was the 10th of eleven children. He married Delores "Nell" Cordova Scallan of Nacogdoches. TX, December 1952 and raised three children. Together, they built a beef cattle business in and around the Baton Rouge area. Later in life, Stephen became involved in property development and railroad construction businesses. Stephen is survived by his daughter, Merri Nell Scallan Brecher and husband Gary Brecher, son David L. Scallan, granddaughter Jennifer Brecher Beegle and husband Philip Beegle, III, and two great grandchildren, Philip Beegle IV and Jackson Beegle, and older brother Robert "Bud" Scallan and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Robert and Leona Mayeaux Scallan, wife Delores "Nell" Scallan, son Stephen "Chipper" Scallan, Jr., and two brothers, Marcus and Irvin "Henry" Scallan and seven sisters, Catherine Mouliere, Joe Ellen Bottger, Marthaleen Afeman, Gertrude Himel, Elise Beard, Irene Wheeler and Emily Aydell. Visitation from 11:00 am till 2:00 pm with services following immediately afterwards at the Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. on Wednesday 6, 2017.
