"He will wipe every tear from their eye. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain..." Our lovely shining girl has sailed into heaven and is at peace. Susannah Stacey Richard was born February 22, 1962, in Baton Rouge, LA. and died April 28, 2014, after a decades-long battle against cancer. This terrible disease may have confined her life for twenty-six years, but it never defined her. Her courage, her strength, her talent, her generosity, and her sense of humor were who she was. As the disease ravaged her body, her spirit only grew more beautiful. She probably never realized how many lives she touched and what an inspiration and role model she was to so many people. Stacey attended St. Joseph's Academy and Tara High School and earned a BFA as member of the first graduating class of the LSU School of Design. She pursued a career as a graphic designer, spending her last several years as Art Director at LSUHSC School of dentistry. At the time of her death, Stacey was a resident of New Orleans, a city that had captured her heart. Known as Susannah to her friends in New Orleans and as Stacey to family and childhood friends in Baton Rouge, she loved all things NOLA especially Mardi Gras season and her Uptown neighborhood. She was a gourmet cook and even when she could no longer eat, she relished preparing dishes for friends and family. She appreciated her legacy of her red hair that she inherited from her Maman Julia and her can-do spirit that came to her from her Mumsy Bernice. She enjoyed the runway and photo modeling that earned her spending money in her college years and afterward. She loved beautiful clothes at bargain prices, savings coupons, the beaches of the Gulf coast, convertibles, renovating old houses, watching "Law and Order", and not least of all, her cat Sweet Pea. Stacey was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, John and Bernice Calabrese and Gus and Julia Richard. She is survived by mother and stepfather, Janice and Robert Evans, and by her father and stepmother, Ron and Karen Richard. She leaves siblings, Kerin Richard Spears, Kristin Richard Peek and husband Brian, Ross Richard, and Scott Richard and wife Courtney, as well as nieces and nephews Katie and Lindsey Spears, Emma and Georgia Richard, and Owen and Jude Richard. The family would like to thank all the dedicated doctors who gave Stacey many more years of enjoyable life than she would have had otherwise. We would especially like to recognize Drs. Randall Weber, Gregory Reece, and Rhonda Jacob at M. D. Anderson, and Drs. Mark Urken, Kevin Okay, and Daniel Buchbinder at Beth Israel. A special thank you is due Drs. Dwayne Anderson and Daniel Nuss at OLOL for their care and concern in the last few weeks. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst East, 11000 Florida Blvd. in Baton Rouge, Friday, May 2, from 9-11a.m. with a memorial service at 11 a.m. In addition, there will be a memorial mass Thursday, May 8, at 11 a.m. at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 8128 Carrollton Ave. in New Orleans, followed by a reception in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to The , Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, or the SPCA.
