We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your Brother/Uncle, Ted. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi.  I met Mr. Zeringue in 1968 on an Explorer Scout canoe trip.  I am in two of your pictures with him; one when we arrived in our Scout uniforms and one when we stepped off the canoes after nine days and 165 miles of waterworld living.  He was always there to help us on that trip which included cold weather, even in July, or in living life and staying safe on that trip.  This included the Minnesota/Canadian lake waters and the streets of Chicago.  For most of us, it was our first trip on a train, traveling 26 hours on a bus ride after a 24 hour train ride, taking us to a movie on the way up and to a Chicago museum on the way back, where we looked through the periscope of the only WWII German U-Boat ever captured in battle.  Mr. Zeringue and I compared grip strength on a machine at that museum.  I actually had a stronger grip than he did after that trip.  I couldn't believe it.  He certainly could paddle better and longer than I could.  But after he explained how I could have a stronger grip, I grew up a little bit.

Thank you for letting me share a brief part of his life.  I still remember those days often, even after 43 years.  I still have the paddle, the 50 Mile Afloat/Afoot Award, and some of life's lessons that he taught while leading us on that trip. I still remember some of my friends talking about how tough he was. Thank you again for letting me share a part of his life.  We all turned out better because of him.

To Ted's Family, I shared a class at Istrouma HIgh School with Ted.  His statement to other class-mates, "Your best friends are your momma and your daddy" was one of the wisest comments I ever heard.  Ted was a special person who will be missed by everyone who knew him.   May God bless you all.
