

Theophile Benedict “Mr. Benny” Chustz, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014. He was 93 years young. The son of Theophile Benedict Chustz and Eleanor Hazel “Steigerwald” Chustz, he was a veteran of World War II and a Corporal acting Sergeant with the United States Marine Corps. He was preceded in death by his brother William and sister Lillian. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Georgene Leatrice Schwartzenburg, and survived by his loving family; son, Gary and wife, Linda and daughter Anna Gorey and husband Dr. Garratt McCutchan; 4 grandchildren: Gregory Chustz, Jennifer Hearn, Anna Marisa Gorey and Ben Gorey, and 4 great grandchildren: Katherine, Valerie, Nathan and Zane. “Mr. Benny” joined the Marines in 1942 and was stationed in Yorktown, VA. He was deployed to fight in the following WWII South Pacific Conflicts: Mop-Up Operations Guadalcanal and initial landings in both Bougainville and Guam arenas as a sniper and machine gunner. He was honorably discharged in 1945. After the war “Mr. Benny” worked for Ethyl Corporation and US Steel as coordinator until he retired. He was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus and a man of honor and courage. Our sincere thanks to the outstanding staff of the Southeast Outpatient Veterans Center for the care, compassion and love you all gave to Mr. Benny for the years he was under your care. We are certain he's "Singing" his songs with thoughts of you in his heart. With his amazing wit and sincere smile on his face, Mr. Benny never met a stranger. A husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest in Peace. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 from 5pm until 8pm and continuing on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 1pm until a Celebration of his Life and Military service will take place at 2pm with entombment immediately following at Greenoaks Mausoleum next to his wife.
