

"Thomas Wilbur Graves went to his heavenly home on January 30, 2017. Tom was born in Centreville, MS on January 14, 1933. He attended Norwood School and graduated from McKowen High School in Jackson, LA. He loved high school sports, excelling in football, basketball, and track. He attended LSU in pre-med 1951-1955 and worked as a student athletic trainer with Dr. Marty Broussard. He graduated from LSU Medical School in 1959 and entered the U.S. Navy. While serving in the Navy, he completed an internship at the US Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. and trained as a naval flight surgeon. Tom served at Whiting Field Naval Air Station from 1961-1964 having attained the rank of Lt. Commander. He completed his medical residency in Dermatology with LSU-Tulane at Charity Hospital New Orleans from 1964-1967, where he served as chief resident. Tom practiced dermatology in Baton Rouge from 1967-1994. LSU honored him in 1991 for his many years of service to the athletic department where he served as a member of the medical team to perform student physicals. He considered it an honor and privilege to serve his patients throughout his medical career. Upon his retirement, he was honored by the EBRP Medical Society for his 35 years of service. Tom had a lifelong love of LSU sports. He enjoyed dining out, traveling, and took great pleasure in spending time with family and friends at his camp in the country. After his retirement, he loved taking his dogs, Dood and Buddy, on long walks. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of sixty years, Sally Friend Pipes, his son, Samuel Graves and wife Destry of Baton Rouge, his daughter, Jane Gould and husband Jeff of Baton Rouge, and his daughter, Kelly Wolf and husband Hank of New Orleans. He will be greatly missed by his four grandchildren, Dr. Tommy Gould and wife Heather, Lindsey Gould Santos and husband Jayson, Christian Wolf and Sally Wolf, and 4 great grandchildren, Gage, Mason and Paiton Gould and Jayson Santos, Jr. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Carl Luikart for his compassionate care and friendship over the years and to his best friend for over 50 years Dr. Jay Guillory. Funeral Services will be held on Friday Feb.3, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge Dunham Chapel where he was a member for 50 years. Services will be conducted by Jim Soloman. Visitation will be from 9 am until service at 10 am. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Norwood, LA.
