Vera Lee McCorkle

Vera Mitchell McCorkle, 91, of Baton Rouge, La, passed away on January 8, 2018 in Pflugerville, TX. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm till 2:00 pm January 13, 2018 at Greenoaks Funeral Home, Baton Rouge, La. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday January 13, 2018 at Greenoaks Funeral Home with the Reverend Mr. Guy E. Decker officiating. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Cemetery. Arrangements are by Greenoaks Funeral Home. Vera McCorkle was born in Conehatta, Ms., to Thomas Irvin Mitchell and Annie Elizabeth Thornton Mitchell on October 20, 1926. Vera went to school at Conehatta High School. She married Joe Henry McCorkle on June 7, 1947 in Newton, Ms. She graduated from Conehatta High School. She worked as a Sunday School Nursery Coordinator for Goodwood Baptist for over 50 years. Vera McCorkle is preceded in death by Thomas Irvin Mitchell, Annie Elizabeth Mitchell, Willie D Mitchell, John Clinton Mitchell, Ruby (Annie) Gertrude Hall Langlois, Thomas S Mitchell, Aston Ray Mitchell, Selby Rosse Mitchell, Stanley Absalom Mitchell, Grady Lewis Mitchell, and Brenda Diane McCorkle Morel. Vera McCorkle is survived by her husband of 70+ years Joe Henry McCorkle, daughter: Julie McCorkle Decker, son-in law Douglas B Decker Jr., Grandchildren: Emelie Decker Konopka, April Decker Thurston, Matthew J. Decker, Bryan Morel, James Morel and great-Grandchildren: Caitlyn J. Konopka, Haley E. DeVries, Morgan DeVries, Ian Morel, Aria Morel and Chloe Morel. Pallbearers will be Cpt. Matthew J. Decker, DVM, James D. Mitchell, Jason D. Mitchell, John Konopka, Richard Thurston, and Matthew Huff. Memorials may be given to St Jude's Hospital in Lieu of flowers.The family of Vera McCorkle wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Pflugerville Health Care Center, Kindred Hospice and Vera's nurses "Leslie" and "Mike" for their loving care of Vera.
