"Vince died peacefully surrounded by family Thursday, October 18, 2018. He and the love of his life, Suzy Ferachi, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on October 12. Their marriage was his proudest accomplishment. Another proud accomplishment was his children and grandchildren. He was 83 years old, and a native of Baton Rouge. He is survived by his wife, Suzy Ferachi, and his children: Michael Ferachi and his wife, Amy Ferachi; Paul Ferachi and his wife, Candi Ferachi; Lesley Gremillion and her husband, Guy Gremillion; Jennifer Kelley and her husband, Keith; and an honorary son, Russell Saia. Pops is also survived by 13 fantastic grandchildren: Mary Claire Ferachi, Prentice Ferachi, Harrison Ferachi, Christopher Ferachi, Cameron Ferachi, Kennedy Ferachi, Keegan Ferachi, Carter Ferachi, Camille Ferachi, Jackson Gremillion, Emma Gremillion, Davis Kelley, and Ava Claire Kelley. He is also survived by his brother, Norman Ferachi and his wife Beth; his sister-in-law, Rita Ferachi; his sister and brother in-law, Patty and Bill Stancliff; his sister-in-law, Charlotte Tait; his Uncle Pete and Aunt Hilda Ferachi; his many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews; and family and dear friends in Baton Rouge and Plaquemine. He was predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Jennie Ferachi; his father and mother-in-law, Frank and Martha Scruggs; his brother, Gerald Ferachi; his brothers-in-law, Mark and Frank Scruggs; and his brother and sister-in-law, Melissa and Jay Weston, all of whom greeted him when he started his next great adventure. He was a proud graduate of Catholic High School, Class of 1954. He attended LSU, but due to having too much fun as a Phi Kappa Theta, he transferred to USL from which he graduated. He was one of the first employees of Kadair's when it was located in the University Shopping Center, just north of the LSU gates. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 6 years during which time he made fond memories, some of which had to do with peeling potatoes at Ft. Ord in California. He was the owner of Capitol City Produce Co., a fourth generation family owned business started by his father in 1947. Suzy joined him there in 1975. They worked together there for almost 45 years. He, Suzy, and their son, Paul, grew Capitol City Produce from a small warehouse on North Acadian Thruway West, to a larger facility on South Choctaw, to the large business that it is now on Commercial Ave. near Interstate 10. He enjoyed working with such an excellent group of people at Capitol City Produce, many who worked with him for 40 years. He always felt that they were family, not employees. He also enjoyed dining with the customers of Capitol City Produce. He was humbled to have received the Grace "Mama" Marino Lifetime Achievement Award by the Baton Rouge Epicurean Society in 2013. He served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, and he was a member of its Food Procurement Committee for over 20 years. He also served on the Board of United Fruit and Produce. He was involved in many other philanthropic endeavors over the years. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 21 at Rabenhorst East. A service celebrating his life will start at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 22 at Our Lady of Mercy, which will be preceded by visitation at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. His ashes will be interred at a later date. He wanted to make sure that we thanked Fr. Cleo Milano; his doctors, particularly Drs. Wilson Wang and his wife, Chau; Oliver Sartor; Roy Kadair; David Hanson; and especially the doctors, nurses, and staff at OLOL's MICU unit, particularly Dr. Stuart Lebas, and Caroline, Lindsey, Angela, and Wendi.
