A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend of many, Virgie Olivier Aubin entered into Heaven for the celebration of Christ’s birth on December 25, 2022. She passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her daughters.
Born a native of Houma, LA, in September 1932, Virgie moved with her family to Plaquemine, LA, at the age of seven. She graduated from St. John the Evangelist Catholic School in 1951. After graduation, she received her secretarial certification from business school, working at the LA Department of Welfare for almost ten years until her marriage to her devoted husband, J. Warren Aubin, in September 1961. Her husband’s job transfer moved the family to Baton Rouge, LA in September 1963.
Caring for her family and home was her life. Being a volunteer school assistant and sewing for three growing daughters were some of her favorite pastimes. Other interests included being outdoors and traveling in a camper van she helped build. Travel would eventually include touring motorcycles. She earned a General Class amateur radio license, N5JXV. Popular in the Baton Rouge, Thibodaux and Lafayette Amateur Radio Clubs, she is also remembered as Saturday Evening Net Control for the Gulf Coast Single Sideband Net.
Keeping Virgie steady through Life’s triumphs and tribulations was her strong Catholic faith. For many years she and her husband served as Eucharistic Ministers with Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. After her husband’s death, she changed her church affiliation nearer to home with St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church. There she formed many close friendships. Virgie is remembered for her optimism, openness and willingness to help in any way possible. Her coffee parties were anticipated and delightful affairs where neighbors and friends gathered. All who visited will remember her “legacy tree”, a highly-decorated, ceiling-tall Christmas tree where every ornament held a story that she happily shared.
Virgie is preceded in death by her husband J. Warren Aubin (K5DVQ); parents Kervin Peter “Pete” and Adleane A. Samanie Olivier, brother Kervin Paul “K.P.” Olivier, sister Wynona R. “Nona” Smith and son-in-law Gregory P. Sanders. She is survived by daughters Ann E. and husband Robert D. “Dan” Pulliam of Zachary, LA; Marie L. and husband Chris D. Ramagos of Brusly, LA; Norma J. Sanders of Zachary, LA; granddaughter Katelyn M. Pulliam and fiancé Dylan Boyd of Savannah, GA; and grandson Daniel H. “Hunter” Pulliam of Zachary, LA. She was blessed to have many nieces and nephews located across the country.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Kent Rhodes, Dr. Charles Thompson, Dr. Michael Castine, Dr. Fredrick Bohanon and Hospice of Baton Rouge for their excellent care, kindness and compassion. Special thanks to Priscilla and Douglas McQueen for “always being there”.
Services will be held at St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church, 5354 Plank Road, Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday, January 21, 2023. Visitation at 10:00am, Rosary at 10:45am, Memorial Mass at 11:00am. Repast to follow. Internment with private services at Louisiana National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in her honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
