Virginia Sumrall McKenzie

Virginia Elaine Sumrall McKenzie passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the age of 91. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Johnelle Minor and husband Bruce, sons Gary McKenzie, Darren McKenzie and wife Tracey; Grandchildren, Adam J Minor, Sr, Brian J Minor and Dillon Aumiller; Great Grandchildren Adalyn Minor, Adam Minor, Jr, Amelia Minor, and Gabe Minor; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Janis Kent, her “Sister in Christ” and by her “adopted” family members sent to her after Hurricane Katrina, Patricia Weber and her beautiful daughters, Nia and Gia.

Virginia is preceded in death by her husband of over 53 years, Charles Thomas McKenzie; parents Johnnie (JE) Sumrall and Letha Smith Sumrall; siblings Vertice Stafford, Lavern Sumrall, Haskel Sumrall, Myrl Sumrall, and Johnny Sumrall.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled in the atrium at The Meridian Condominium off South Sherwood Forest Blvd. for August 17, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 4 pm. The address is 11550 Southfork Ave. Baton Rouge, LA 70816. It will be a chance for us to gather, fellowship, reminisce and share our “Virginia, Aunt Elaine, Mom, Memaw, Miss Daisy” stories. We would love for those who loved her as we do to join us.

Anyone who may wish to donate in Mom’s name, please consider The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Patient Assistance Foundation. Both nonprofit groups assisted Mom over the years.
