
Wallace Levi Bennett, 88, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 18, 2010. Levi was born April 27, 1922, to James Robert Bennett and Margaret Etta Browning Bennett. He was a lifelong resident of Central. Levi was a retired electrical first line supervisor from ExxonMobil, having worked there for 33 years. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II, was a 50-year member of Central Masonic Lodge 442 and a member of Zoar Baptist Church. Levi is survived by Elaine Hudson Bennett, his wife of 60 years. He is also survived by two daughters, Terry L. Bennett, and Kathy B. Shockley and husband Bruce; and two beloved granddaughters, Carole Lynn Shockley and Rachael Elaine Shockley. He is also survived by his sisters, Laura Lea Waters and husband Wilbur, Bobbie Joyce Neyland and husband Pete, all of Central, Louise Fletcher and husband Barzie, of San Angelo, Texas, and Marguerite Baudin, of Kentwood; brother-in-law, M.C. Martin, of Central; and sister-in-law, Mildred Bennett, of Central. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert and Margaret Bennett; his brother, Boyd Bennett; three sisters, Anne Etta Martin, who was of Central, Inez Ward, who was of Marrero, and Flarrie Baudin, who was of Central; and brothers-in-law Ted Ward, who was of Marrero, and Jake Baudin, who was of Kentwood. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday evening, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 21, from 10:30 a.m. until funeral service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Kevin Hand. Burial to follow in Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 11848 Hooper Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70818. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of the Intensive Care Unit C of the Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet for their compassionate care. Levi was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
