
Wayne W. Landry Sr., 83, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at Sherwood Manor Nursing Home in Baton Rouge. Wayne was born in Dutchtown on April 15, 1927, the youngest of 11 siblings. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lubin and Juilienne Landry; and five brothers and five sisters. He was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge and a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. He was a graduate of LSU and retired in 1984 from the Louisiana Department of Education. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Vernia R. Landry; three children, Tanya Sims, of Orlando, Fla., Tara "C-C" Schempf, of Baton Rouge, and Wayne W. Landry Jr. and his wife, Deborah Landry, of Thurmont, Md. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 18, from 8:30 a.m. until time of services at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made towards Masses at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. A special thanks goes to the staff of Sherwood Manor Nursing Home for his care, in particular, Tomika and Carlton, who cared for him for the past seven years while a resident of the nursing home.
