"Bill was born in Ruston, Louisiana in December of 1942. He graduated from West Monroe High School in 1960, LSU Engineering in 1965, and LSU Law School in 1971. His battle with cancer ended at home on Saturday evening with his family by his side. He is survived by his son, William Gary Avery, Jr., daughter-in-law Vanessa, granddaughter Claire of Ludwigsburg, Germany, daughter Laura McLeary Avery of New Orleans, his wife Sue, and his best dog, Banjo. Bill resided in Baton Rouge and at his farm in Catahoula Parish. He was an active member of Rings 'n Ivy Sunday School class at Baton Rouge First United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church on North Boulevard at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 6 with visitation at 10 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Moss Grove Plantation Cemetery south of Jonesville, Louisiana. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Music Ministry of the Baton Rouge First United Methodist Church and Cancer Services of Baton Rouge.
