
A retired employee of Airline Diesel Service, native of Ponchatoula and resident of Baker, he died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at Lane Regional Medical Center. He was 89 and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by a son, Joseph A. Achord and wife Carolyn Maggio Achord, of Baker; a brother, Huey L. Achord and wife Pauline, of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, Lisa Achord Poor and husband Todd, Robyn Achord Bosworth and husband Michael, and Wyatt J. Achord and wife Helen; four great-grandchildren, Alexander Singleton, Presley Poor, and Chloe and Camille Bosworth; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, Nov. 14 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home Monday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Frank Bass. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearlie Martin Achord; parents, Henry and Beulah Achord; and 17 siblings. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church. Active pallbearers will be Huey Achord, Wyatt Achord, Todd Poor, Roy LaFleur, Joe Antie and Mike Halphen. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Bosworth and Jack Blakenship.
