Mrs. Willie Joyce "Billie" Odum, daughter of Houston Henry Deen and Doris Chance Deen, was born March 29, 1934 in Lone Star, Mississippi. She was the sixth of eight daughters. She attended schools in Covington County and graduated from Spencer Business Institute in Mobile, Alabama. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Lone Star United Methodist Church
She was united in holy matrimony to Elton Jefferson Odum in November of 1953. Mrs. Odum was an active member of the First Southern Methodist Church, Oakcrest Baptist, and Lanier Baptist. As a result of her open spirit and infectious personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was fruitful as she served in the choir, as a Sunday school teacher, and too many committees to list.
Her influence will remain in the lives of the ones who knew her.
Billie had many dear friends, each of whom will forever cherish their own memories with her. She led an incredible and fun-filled life with lots of laughter and love. She enjoyed raising her children, spending time with family and friends, and fishing at the camp at Bayou Sorrel. She enjoyed garage sales, traveling with her husband, and lost the love of her life when Elton passed away
She quietly departed this life on May 2, 2025 at the Saint Clare nursing home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Odum; son, Daryl Evans Odum; and her daughter-in-law, Penny Williams Odum. Her life will forever be cherished by her sons, Dale (Denise) and Dennis Odum; her grandchildren Dylan (Jamie), Kennon (Gabriella), Paul (Alissa), Michael (Veronica), and Nicole Bryant (Shelton); her ten great-grandchildren and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the caregivers at St. Clare and Clarity Hospice.
