“Trust in the Lord and do good.” Psalm 37:3. Dr. Wyman Walker went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by loving family on August 16, 2016 at the age of 89. He was born in Homer, Louisiana on February 13, 1927 to Edgar Wyman and Ruth Baucum Walker. After high school he attended LSU for one year on a football scholarship before serving in the U.S. Navy for two years. Wyman then returned to LSU for his BS degree and earned his MD degree from the Tulane School of Medicine in 1955. Dr. Walker initially practiced family medicine in Homer, Louisiana and then in the Broadmoor area of Baton Rouge for 40 years before retiring at the age of 71. He was a dedicated physician who loved his profession and was devoted to his patients. Early in his career he frequently made house calls if someone needed him after hours. Pete was blessed in many ways but his priority was his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He enjoyed extensively reading and studying his Bible which he leaves with every page completely highlighted with innumerable marginal notes. “What does it profit a man to gain the world but forfeit his soul?” As a physician he knew his role was to meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs the best he could but the Lord was the final authority in life. Cure when possible, relieve pain often, comfort always and call on God for complete healing reflected his sentiments. He had many friends throughout his life and leaves a legacy of a large loving family. Pete was married to the late Catherine Walker Hansbrough and they had four children. He is survived by sons Dr. David Wyman Walker and his wife Virginia Lewis Walker, Dr. Mark Moore Walker and his wife Karen Kennedy Walker of Carmel, California, Dr. Stephen Baucum Walker and his wife Candace Hays Walker; and his daughter, Ann Mary Walker O’Shea and her husband Dr. Kevin Joseph O’Shea of North Augusta, South Carolina. His grandchildren and great grandchildren include Leigh Walker Greene and her husband Jason Greene and children Catelyn, Ginny, Tommy, and Emily Claire; Dr. Paul Wyman Walker and his wife Jill Ruddick Walker and children John, Luke, and Paige; Dr. Matthew Lewis Walker; Melissa Walker Fitzgerald and her husband Bryan Fitzgerald and children Charlie and Carter; Elizabeth Walker Russell and her husband Josh Russell and children Walker and Grant; Catherine Walker Gutter and her husband Emerich Gutter and children Mark and Rowe; Andrew Baucum Walker, Christine Cecile Walker, Emma Kate Conner, Hayes Patrick Conner; Rebecca Ann O’Shea and her child Bradley and Brennan Walker O’Shea. Pete was a former member of Broadmoor Methodist church and later a charter member of The Chapel on the Campus. A special thanks to the caring staff at Lake Sherwood Village, Nursing Care Connections, Moore Care, Amedisys Hospice, and his faithful caregivers Paula Batiste, Marquita Bingham, Tenecisa Davis, Paulette Dunbar, Cherlene Hankton, Sherry Lynn Hawkins, Brittany Prudhomme, Kolonda Randolf, Debra Williams, and Phavia Lyn Williams. Memorial donations may be made to the The Chapel on the Campus or to an area charity serving the needs of recent flood victims. Honoring his wishes, a private family graveside service was held at Greenoaks Memorial Park. You may sign the online guestbook at www.greenoaksfuneral.com.
