

Alvin ""Al"" Maurice Cornelius, 71, of Livingston, died Tuesday, August 11, 2010 in Eugene, Oregon. He was born October 18, 1938 in Baytown to his late parents, Alvin Cornelius and Wessie Sikes Cornelius and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School.
Mr. Cornelius retired from NASA after 25 years of service and had worked for the US Department of Energy and served as Ellis County Judge for 8 years. He was a US Navy veteran and had also been a minister, a teacher, a newspaper columnist, and a Harris County Reserve Deputy and Detective. Al's enjoyments included fishing, hunting, golfing, photography, and playing guitar.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ray Cornelius.
Survivors include his son, Phil Cornelius and his wife Kim of Livingston; 3 grandchildren; sisters, Lorene DeLaVergne and Geralene Paulsel both of Baytown and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Navarre Funeral Home with Mr. Leonard White officiating.
