

Avis L Stovall, age 73, passed away peacefully, December 4, 2016, in Georgetown, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends. Avis was born to Romeo and Lillian Stovall on May 21, 1943, in Baytown, Texas.
Avis graduated from Robert E Lee High School in 1961 and then went on to obtain her degree in occupational therapy from TWU in Denton, Tx. Avis specialized in mental health and worked for various organizations in Houston, Baytown, and San Antonio. She retired from The Gathering Place in Houston prior to moving to Georgetown, Tx, to be closer to family and take care of her mother until her mother’s death in 2013.
Avis had many talents and interests. She enjoyed fishing, collecting antiques, decorating and baking cakes, painting, and playing with her many nieces and nephews. She was known as “The Jelly Bean Lady” to her great nephews. She was also known as fun loving and always encouraged the nieces and nephews to pursue their goals.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Romeo and Lillian Stovall, stepfather, Ernest Sjolander, and special grandmother, Edna Stovall, and maternal grandparents, Henry and Ora Barrilleaux. She is survived by 2 sisters and their husbands, Darlene and Perry Weeks, and Diane and Tom Waters, and step-brother, David Sjolander. She is also survived by many longtime friends, cousins and close extended family. The family would like to thank all of her friends and family who had the opportunity to visit during her illness and a special thanks to Jeannette Stubbs, who provided companionship and shopping excursions during Avis’ illness. In addition, we would like to thank Estrella Oaks and Guiding Hospice for the excellent care they provided.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at noon at Earthman’s Funeral Home in Baytown, Texas.
