Betty Douglas Offermann

She would have been 88 had she lived through next month, but the Lord had other plans and she was called home on August 19, 2013. It wasn't just a movie; it was a wonderful life. Betty spent her childhood in Baytown, graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, attended Lon Morris College where she was a member of the Lon Morris Singers, and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin. Armed with a Bachelor's Degree in English and a Master's Degree in Education, she spent 28 years teaching in the Goose Creek Independent School District. She married a local boy by the name of Kenneth Offermann, and after his service in the Navy and graduating from The University of Texas, they made their home in Baytown. With the exception of her last seven years in Austin, Betty was a life-long resident of Baytown. Her parents were founding members of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, where she was an active member in the congregation and choir. Betty knew quite well the value in volunteering; having been on the other side of needing help when hurricane Carla left five feet of water in their home in Brownwood. She endured, like so many, picking up the pieces and rebuilding. She served in various leader positions in the Baytown PEO Chapter, Service League, DAR and the American Association of University Women.

Betty Offermann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Cindy Offermann of Baytown; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and John Miller of Austin; and grandson, Maclin Miller of Austin.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 23, 6 pm – 8 pm at Navarre Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 1 pm at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 3811 N. Main St., Baytown, TX 77521 with Rev. Mike Proctor officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery in Baytown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Betty's memory to St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
