

Bobby was a Staff Sgt. in the U. S. Air Force before he started his career at Chevron in 1966 and retired in 1992 with 26 years of service. He was civic–minded and was affiliated with many wonderful groups. Bobby was a member of Wooster Baptist Church for 30 years where he served as a Deacon. He was active in the Men's Department, director of the men's prayer breakfast that met monthly, and active in the men's ministry of Wooster Baptist Church. He was a member of the Baytown Optimist Club for 17 years where he served as Chaplin and was also a Director. He was on the Board of Directors of Love Inc. where he served as Church Giving Director. He was a member of the Baytown Gideon's with 17 years of service and he served as secretary for several years. He was also active with East Harris County Senior Citizen Highlands/San Jacinto Community Center where Julie Connella is the director. He was a member of the American Legion and was also a member of the Metropolitan Houston Chapter Chevron Retirees Association. He received the ""Man of the Year"" award for 2005. He was a man always willing and ready to serve. He was a volunteer of service.
Bobby has been blessed in his life for being around all the wonderful people in the City of Baytown and for all that they have done for him. God has used Bobby in a wonderful way and his life has been a blessing to all that met him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Janet Yoakum; sisters-in-law, Clarece V. Coleman of San Antonio, Novelete Yoakum of Sinton, TX, and Gloria C. Yoakum of Sinton, TX,; niece, Gloria G. Jefferson of Sinton; special cousins, Billy Ray Nichols and wife Jo Ann of Baytown, Monroe Nichols Jr. of Baytown, Floyd Nichols and wife Madeline of Washington, D. C., Ruby Arkadie and husband Horace of Corpus Christi, and Alonia Moton and husband Robert of Corpus Christi; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Houston B. Yoakum, Sr. and Bessie Yoakum; brothers, Clifton R. Yoakum and Houston Yoakum Jr.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 29, 2008 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Navarre Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 30, 2008 at Wooster Baptist Church, 7007 Bayway, Baytown, TX. with Dr. Mack Jones officiating. Graveside services will follow at Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be the deacons of Wooster Baptist Church.
