

Byron Thomas Compton, 93, of Baytown, Texas was born in Stapleton, NE on October 17, 1921 to John Jacob Compton and Gladys B. Davis-Compton. He went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 18, 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents John (Jake) and Gladys Compton; sisters, Beulah Barnett and Bonnie Rose Hughes; and grandson, James Thomas Yates.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Florence Compton; brother, Billy Compton and wife Dorothy; daughters, Penny Yates and Peggy Compton-Jacobs; grandchildren, Kyle Yates, Kelly McClure, Stephanie Saladrigas and Don Saladrigas, great-grandchildren, Krystal Martinez and husband Andrew, Cameron Yates, Aaron Yates, Tyler Saladrigas, Riley Saladrigas, and Mason Bird; great-great-grandchildren, Xavier Duran and Andrew Martinez II.; and also many nieces and nephews.
Byron moved to Baytown and married his wife, Florence in 1947. He was a navy veteran and served his time in WWII. He was also a welder for Exxon and after an injury he retired in 1969. His happiest times were spent with his loving wife and family. He enjoyed building woodworks including realistic doll houses, bird houses and windmills. He also enjoyed spending a lot of time outdoors fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved rescuing cats and dogs and also did a lot of photography. He was also known as "popa" to his grandchildren. Byron had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. In his later years he spent a lot of time watching old western videos in his den with his wife by his side.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Earthman Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Earthman Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8624 Garth Rd., Baytown, TX 77521.
