Our beloved mother, grandmother, and matriarch, Cecelia “Cecil” Moreno, age 85, entered eternal rest on September 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 16, 1939, in Whitsett, Texas, to Jose Angel and Lucinda Moreno.
Cecil was the heart and soul of her family—the foundation that held everyone together. She was tough, outspoken, and strong-willed, but her love ran deep. She didn’t show affection through words, but through action. Her love could be blunt, even fierce, but it was real. Her family knew that beneath her firm tone and those famous words— “If you don’t like it, then you can get out of my house!”—was a heart overflowing with love, pride, and loyalty.
Cecil was the kind of woman who did whatever it took. She worked hard, stayed up late, and sacrificed her own comfort to make sure her family had what they needed. Through her toughness, she taught her children and grandchildren the true meaning of love, sacrifice, and resilience.
She was preceded in death by her beloved sons Roberto “Bobby” Moreno and Larry Moreno; her grandson Jacob Moreno (Larry’s son); her granddaughter Carolina Moreno-Gluth (Veronica’s daughter); her lifelong friend Ramiro Lopez (father of Maria Lopez’s children); and her son-in-law Ernesto Treviño (Cynthia’s husband).
Cecil is survived by her children who carry her love and legacy:
• Gracie Sanchez (Homer)
• Cynthia Treviño
• Veronica “Ronnie” Moreno
• Maria Lopez (Juan)
• Eric Moreno (Crystal Moreno)
• Jeremiah Moreno
Her pride and joy were her many grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply:
• Gracie and Homer: Erica Mosley (Kevin Mosley), Laura Sanchez, Christian “Boy” Sanchez (Reyna Jackson), and Lucinda Moreno
• Cynthia and Ernesto: Amy Treviño (Edgar Morales), Ernesto Treviño Jr. (Alejandra Treviño), Daniel Treviño (Vicky Treviño), and Amanda Treviño
• Maria: Juan Hernandez Jr. (“Juanito”) and Catalina Hernandez
• Eric and Crystal: Isaiah Moreno, Jenna Moreno, Noah Moreno, and Hayden Moreno
• Larry: Brianna Traughber, Candace Moreno and Andrew Moreno
Cecil’s love didn’t stop with her own children—she opened her heart and her home to others, raising and caring for those who needed her most. She gave selflessly, never asking for recognition, and sacrificed again and again out of pure love for her family. That was who she was—strong, giving, and deeply devoted to those she called her own.
In her younger years, she enjoyed sitting with her brothers and sisters, sharing stories, smoking her cigarettes, and sipping on a cold beer. Those moments, simple but full of laughter and family, were some of her happiest times.
Cecil will be remembered as a woman who was both tough and tender—a force of nature with a heart big enough for everyone. Her family will forever carry her lessons: work hard, love fiercely, and stand your ground.
Though Cecil’s earthly journey has ended, her legacy of love, strength, and sacrifice lives on in all who knew her.
Rest in peace, Mama. You will always be the heart of our family—the one who taught us how to love the hard way, but the right way.
